Trial Lawyers for Justice Presentation: Part Two

Presenters: Nick Rowley, David Ball & Joseph Lowe (41:10)
Topic: Jury Selection

We want jurors who are caring and considerate, people we can connect with and care about. During Jury Selection the goal is to keep people on the jury, not to kick them off, so start out by trusting each one of them. But should you verbally ask the jurors to trust you in return? Or should you instead take the time to listen carefully and thoughtfully to each juror and allow them to express their opinions, even when they are showing signs of hostility. Will this allow you to gain their trust without explicitly asking them to trust you? Nick, Joseph and David have a bit of a heated debate while discussing the intricacies of this process and the importance of using (or not using) specific verbiage during the Jury Selection process.
